Modern Times Theater makes puppet shows for the street, the school, the barn, the pasture and the subway. The shows convey a general dissatisfaction with post-modern convenience and promote a return to old-fashioned difficulty.
Modern Times Theater is also part of the Vermont Vaudeville troup, performing Vaudeville shows in the Opera Houses of Vermont.
We also double as the Plank House Band, a tasty little Cornet and Banjolele duo, playing the popular music of yesterday.
Our corporate offices are on a small farm in East Hardwick, VT.
We are working on a new kids show. Yes, puppetry is for children, too! If you know of a library or event that would like some real old-fashioned live entertainment, please contact us.
We currently perform two different Punch and Judy shows
In The Wonderful And Gruesome Drama of Punch and Judy, Puppetry's favorite Jerk and his loud mouth wife take a trip through the constipated bowels of the American food nightmare. It's Farm fresh gratuitous violence served up hot and crusty!
In The Jolly Banker, Punch and Judy purchase real estate only to have the Banker, Lawyer, Policeman, Judge, Congressman and God dash their American Dream to tiny bite sized cardboard pieces.
In our street show series: The Rural Person's Verbal Reclamaion Front, we reclaim various words from the icy grip of our post industrial empire and present them as a gift for the mutual benefit of Woman and Beast, Man and Pasture. To date, we have reclaimed the words Chore and Economy.
And don't miss Leo the Human Xylophone! After being struck by lightening late one evening while fixing the old church bell, Leo woke to find little bells stuck all over his body. Luckily he uses his powers for good, and not evil. Let him shake and jingle his way deep into your heart as he performs hits like "Ring of Fire" and "Love me Tender" on this unique instrument, the Human Xylophone.
